CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

The Commonwealth Party supports the application of corporal punishment for certain crimes and certain types of offenders beyond the more usual nonviolent or lesser-battery misdemeanors.

The first tier of corporal punishment should be administered such that as little or no physical damage is done but adequate pain is inflicted. Various degrees of corporal punishment would be implemented increasing for more heinous crimes. Its use to bring about correction incentive for behaviors and attitudes of troubled delinquents and citizens is sought in its application.

Public application of corporal punishment can be allowed to shame and evoke repentance from the offender. An air of deterrence initiative should be involved in the show and application of corporal punishment as well. With society's increasing inability to discipline itself and its posterity, corporal punishment is going to be needed to make up for the difference.

Corporal punishment can also benefit the system as a way to save on jail space as an alternative sentence.

We advocate flogging or caning for those who commit brutal crimes and extreme abuse of animals using methods to a degree commensurate with the crime in order to avoid being 'cruel and unusual'.
